ReplyDeleteI AM CONFUSED WITH LINEAR ELEMENT.YOU SAID ITS CHARACTERISTIC MUST BE STRAIGHT LINE PASSING THROUGH THE ORIGIN.WHY IS PASSING THROUGH THE ORIGIN NECESSARY BECAUSE Y = mX + C IS ALSO AN EQUATION OF STRAIGHT LINE AND IS LINEAR.PLEASE REPLY OR GIVE REFERENCE.THANK YOU.

DeleteIN this situation Linearity = Additivity + Homogeneity
Remember,Differential equation governing capacitor and inductor also satisfies linearity.So they are linear devices.or their CH graph (Q vs V & Ψ vs V ) are straight line passing through origin.
